this is another one of the instances of my perseverance paying off as I go to a soda shoppe and look at pretty much every root beer related beverage, comparing the ingredients to the version I reviewed previously. as I recall, the old recipe of this was pretty terrible. nonetheless I have a lot of faith in the Appalachian Brewing Company people and do hope this one is much improved.
hhhmmm, well it is improved, I will give it that. but is it good? not really. for whatever reason, lately I have actually been drinking more no calorie beverages, mostly the ‘free’ variety as opposed to the ‘diet’ type. they actually taste decently in general. so I was secretly expecting this one to have gone that route. but no, it is much more a diet type drink in its flavor and overall experience. they throw in a bit of actual honey to give it 10 calories but honestly I cannot taste it at all. it is strange that ‘diet root beer’ is a flavor pretty distinct from full sugar ‘root beer’ to me. this mainly tastes like that standard diet root beer. the stevia sweetening does let it not have the awful metallic taste as well as the terrible aftertaste that come with most diet sodas. that right there is another big plus and gives this one a few more points
