Morley’s Maple Root Beer

two things in this world I would say I love 90% of the time at least are root beer and maple syrup, well among a whole load of other things, shoo fly pie, butterfingers, mangoes, dark chocolate… although most of those things are pretty specific. so anyway, putting those first two things together should result in something extra yummy. there are a few other maple sweetened root beer I have had in the past so this is not the first of those, yet it is rather rare anyway.
the recipe here is interesting and not something I have ever really seen before. first of all because it is very simple and uncomplicated. and secondly and more so because they mix two widely available root beer extracts and actually specify which ones they use. I am not sure any other do that, they just say ‘root beer extract’ or something such thing. this is an excellent idea to me, they have their own root beer, but just use stuff they can get easily to make it.
with that said, it is pretty good but the carbonation is too sharp for my liking. the flavor beyond that is tasty, a good amount of licorice / anise in it with the maple there but not too much that it dominates, it i not the sweetest thing I have had but that works here, it is just right, not sweet or tart/sour/bland. that carbonation though… it is just too high and a little hurty of my mouth. it could also be more maple tasting, as I said I do love me some maple. I am happy they exist but I won’t order more.

  1. Wasn’t Zatarain’s discontinued?

  2. Yes, indeed it was, last year. Perhaps they have a big stock of it or have not updated their ingredients…
