so Boylan’s has come out with a line of “natural” sodas. leading the charge is this natural root beer with oils of sweet birch, cinnamon, sassafras, and anise along with extracts of bourbon vanilla, yucca and licorice. indeed. and let me tell you, as much as i was let down by the regular root beer from Boylan’s, i am impressed with this version! great stuff. very low carbonation which seems to help one actually taste the soda. and that, my friends, is a good thing because this is one tasty soda. sweet, perhaps a little bit too much so for some people but it is a good sweetness, not all syrupy and corn sweetener-like. you can taste the cinnamon very subtly as well as hints of the anise and licorice. great soda, one of the best!

I love this stuff! (Their “regular” root beer is awful, which is weird because they make great soda as a rule.) BTW, the yucca (which is bitter and disgusting) contains saponins, i.e., it makes suds–that’s why the soda highly carbonated.
Even the color is gorgeous! The only flaw is that it’s a little too lightweight to make a great float, which is one of my criteria.
