Roundy’s is a supermarket chain based in Milwaukee. the all powerful root beer finder Jon somehow figured out that they make their own root beer. once again i am impressed with other people’s abilities to find new sodas and i am thankful for their willingness to trade said sodas with me. although i would have to be getting new sodas myself for this whole cycle to work out, so in the end i am impressed with myself somehow i think. fair enough.
the label is sort of a fancy generic style, kind of plain but with fancy fonts and the like. the chairman guarantees my satisfaction even. the thing that confuses me is the nutritional info. they list a serving at 8 oz, so this 12 oz bottle has 1.5 servings. annoying but whatever. but then the numbers are kind of staggering if it is indeed 1.5 servings. 220+ calories?! 59g of sugar?!? what?! 24mg of sodium does seem reasonable actually. yet i think they put the info for the full 12 oz on here. at least i hope so, that is a lot of calories and sugar otherwise. plus they use high fructose corn syrup and cane sugar. since the HFCS comes first, there is more of it and it kind of negates the cane sugar in my mind. why bother? i guess so you can say it is cane sugar sweetened although they do not do that.
getting down to the taste, it too is fancy generic. the initial flavor is sharp and sweet, that becomes even sharper and then fades to a cinnamon-like taste. it seems to keep biting for a moment there but then gives up and lets your mouth be again. i am not sure i would like this any better than some other store brands in cans. they all seem to over-carbonate or perhaps use some cheaper carbonation method that makes the soda very sharp. i commend them for glass bottling it though, that is nice. overall, the flavor reminds me of IBC i think most of all. so it is ok.
