Private Label Birch Beer

I found out that this art store called “Saint Drools” had their own line of sodas. I suspected it was too good to be true that they were their own recipes, but being the eternal optimist I am, I placed an order for the root beer, birch beer and sarsaparilla. I even ordered extras of the root beer so that I could trade it with other people. but when it arrived I was sad to find out they were all really made by Private Label. but as luck would have it I never reviewed the birch beer and the sarsaparilla was a different recipe so that is a win anyway. I now realize I most likely told this same tale of woe when I reviewed the sarsaparilla few months back, oh well. getting old, too forgetful, pardon me whippersnappers!
on with the show! this is a refreshing soda, I will give it that. today I ran 12 miles in the morning then did a weight work out in the afternoon and during that second workout I really craved something refreshing. this would have fit the bill very well. the flavor is light, that bit of wintergreen with a decent dose of just sugary sweetness. I would like it more as a drink if it had more to it. yes, it is fine and tasty and will pass as a white birch beer for people who just want that. yet I would hope for more. granted that probably is not likely to come from a company making sodas for lots of other places as this one does. their business model really is more to appeal to the masses I would think, making solid, safe but not adventurous beverages for restaurants or whatever to have their name on. there is a value in that. this is more a drink I would guzzle down the bottle of or maybe have with a slice or five of pizza and be fine with. it is not so much something to savor on its own.
