ah, yes, now i am seeing… i actually am unsure if this is different than the soda above but they were sold at the same store so i don’t think it is just a repackaging. but they do have the same ingredients and the same UPC code so maybe… ok, taste em and see anthony! nope, they are different for sure. this one has a foam that disappates much more quickly. the taste is different too. not as overwhelmed with fizzyness, one can taste the brew a bit more. there is a slight anise taste here also i think, not as strong as the sarsaparilla though. still a worth brew though.

The label references the root beer being a ‘tonic,’ and indeed, I found this root beer had a medicinal scent. Japanese people tend to react to root beer as ‘tasting like medicine.’ So maybe this is what it feels like to be Japanese and drinking root beer. Also, my bottle was green (unlike the one pictured). That might have subliminally suggested the medicine angle.
[…] Anthony’s Root Beer Barrel Review […]
After finally trying this again I am happy to say……….this is waaaaaay better than I thought it was. I poured this in a frosted mug and oh boy was it really really delicious. Has kind of a basic root beer flavor, but so good and perfect sweetness. Has nice notes of sassafrass and vanilla and is a root beer I’ll perhaps buy a case of to put in my vintage vending machine. A step up to a 92.
Oops, my review was for their “cane sugar” style, not this one.
