Empire Bottling Works Diet Root Beer

here we go again! i was very excited to trade with Eric of Eric’s Gourmet Root Beer fame. we each could easily get stuff the other needed and all went smoothly. as it usually does when i have made trades with our reviewin’ sites out there. well, actually, the package i sent Eric ended up with 3 bottles he couldn’t use as they came open somewhere between here and there. but i shall be replacing them soon. which, when you read this, will be quite a long time ago actually.
anyway… when i make a trade diet sodas are kind of my last resort. i know they are out there and people may be able to get them, but i would SO much rather get a sugary soda. although it is a tough call between a store brand regular soda and a glass bottle diet soda. hhhhmmm…. something to ponder. even worse, actually i asked Eric for a diet soda i had already reviewed but had accidentally left on my “need to get” list! ug. wasted! whatever.
so Empire has redesigned their labels since i last reviewed one of their sodas. i like the new style, which looks like it might in fact be an old style they brought back. it is sort of generic looking but as a vintage brand, that was the style in 1930 so it works fine here.
now, the soda… it is not bad! surprising! at first it is good even, it tastes like a decent root beer. but then after a second that fades to a metallic ting on your tongue. and that there is the problem. it is not as strong as some other diet sodas so i give them credit for that, yet it is there and wrecks whatever happened before that. a pretty good head, a creamy, sweet taste but metal aftertaste.
