this is sort of a new soda, sort of not. a bunch of years ago, Goose Island decides to rebrand their sodas as WBC, which seems to stand for WIT Beverage Co. But what does ‘WIT’ stand for? it is always a little wacky to have an acronym inside of an acronym but who am I to judge? somewhere in the 21 years since I reviewed the Goose Island Root Beer they also changed the recipe a bit. so in the end this is sort of a total new review, new name, new recipe, same old company sort of. I think i prefer the Goose Island moniker really myself, but that is not up to me and it is years gone at this point.
I find it curious that they seems to try to be very “Chicago” but they are a California company. from the ‘Chicago Style’ in their logo to the Chicago flag repurposed for the label image. no matter really. they say in very small print ‘Born on Goose Island, Chicago, Illinois in 1988’ so there they make their claim of heritage. I do not really know where they distribute this in general, I would guess the greater Chicago area as that is where I first found it long ago.
although I like this soda pretty well, I feel it is a bit too tame. it is kind of creamy buuuuuut not too creamy. it has a nice flavor buuuuuuut not too much of it. there is a little bite buuuuuut just a little, although that part is ok by me. there is a nice large head for those fans of that. it is not really special but it is better than tolerable.

Tried again. Honestly, quite a tasty brew. A little more on the vanilla ice cream/cream soda flavor profile, and it has a weird marshmallow flavor that is prominent (to me at least). I do like a more rootier root beer. I like one that has some good root flavors. This one….. not so much. However the flavor is really good and very satisfying. For the vanilla ice cream type root beers, I really thing this one is good. I give it one more point than I previously gave it. I now give it an 85. Really solid flavor….. even though it’s not exactly my style of root beer.
