Hermitage Brewing So Duh! Rockin Root Beer

this is the 900th soda added to my database! whoa! usually when i review a soda i will try not to look at any other reviews of it. this one i knew had a few out there and i was sure i read them at some point, but my memory is awful so i have no clue if they liked it or not. after tasting it and deciding how i felt for myself though, i did go check out others’ opinions, just for kicks. two of the three reviews said it tasted like a cola. it doesn’t. really. at all. i don’t get that. one said it had a buttload of wintergreen, one said it had none. i don’t taste any so i will go with the 2nd person. two said they loved it, one hated it, the cola people were split on that issue.
i will add my vote onto the “love” side. it is really good! a really long lasting, large head adds a visual for just how creamy this thing is. yup, very vanilla creamy despite it being the last ingredient on the list. that makes me a little scared of just how much phosphoric acid and sodium benzoate are in here but it is just one bottle, so i will be ok i hope. the honey is pretty prominent in the flavor profile but not enough to overwhelm you. i take it down a point or two for being a little TOO vanilla for my tastes. this is very definitely a root beer, not a cola, albeit a vanilla one.
the label is alright, it is much more a micro-brew beer type label, with the pun and related illustration and all which seems to permiate that world. they claim it is a “soda with an attitude” but it is not so much. excellent, but little attitude.

  1. Yay! We agree on this one. That makes me happy. This one totally blew me away when I had it.

  2. I like the fact that this soda has the perfect head. Nevertheless, I’d have to say that this is just a decent root beer. It wouldn’t make my top 15 list because the flavor tastes a little like crayons…. root beer flavored crayons. 78 out of 100. Sorry, So Duh!

I am drinking this right as I write this. It does not taste like wintergreen, so I agree with the others that did not taste it either.

The honey is the strong flavor profile for me, It overwhelms it to the point that for me it does not taste like root beer, but it also does not taste like cola. I also give this a low score of 60
