Orca makes, the world takes. well, i sure hope so, they make some good stuff! actually that (“trenton makes, the world takes”) is the unofficial motto of Trenton, NJ and it is written in big neon letters on one of the big bridges in the city which i go over occasionally when running an errand from my job. it always strikes me as very bitter and resentful, which Trenton perhaps has a right to be on some level, but not enough to make a neon sign from it. i suppose it could be taken as pride in all that the city produces, but it still seems bitter, as if they don’t take anything from anyone, they just make junk and all the rest of y’all consume it on up! anyway, that has nothing at all to do with this soda.
as i first tasted this drink i knew it was good, but something eluded me. it did not taste like a cane sugar soda, no there is something else in here. then i found it, honey! yes, my old friend and yummy pal. and they did it in a very good way here. it does not carry or control the taste, it is there in the flavor and happy with its place as a supporting cast member. don’t get me wrong, i love honey and would be happy if it was even more present, but i know many people won’t like that. so the dab of honey mixes with the smooth vanilla and makes an excellent beverage. there is very little foam or head and that is fine. there is sufficient carbonation though so all is forgiven there. those people in Seaside, OR are quite lucky to have such a solid root beer as well as a great birch beer available to them at a moment’s notice.
