Wang Gang Nearly Famous Root Beer

I came across this soda by accident. i was searching for another brand and somehow came across a photo of this one. of course being the inquisitive type, especially in regards to root beers i don’t recognize, i clicked away and found this one. i ordered some after deciding it was for real. granted 3 days later they had a group-on like deal for the same soda so i could have saved myself a bit of money had i waited, but i have never before seen a groupon for root beer so it was a pretty well calculated risk in my mind.
the design here is somewhat different and that is fine. the company is very much not the focal point. the real focal point are the words “root beer” and two very large squiggly braces around the soda description. why squiggly braces? no idea. maybe it is a mouth and “root” and “beer” are the teeth? i don’t know. could be.

it seems this company makes asian cuisine of some sort. i like that sort of thing usually. and now they are making three soda flavors. the signature one seems to be their black cherry bomb. although i like black cherry soda a lot i did not order any of that. but it leads me to my next point, this root beer tastes like it has some cherry flavor in it. in fact i would say that is the dominant taste here. it is even more cherry flavored than the Boom Chugga Lugga Cherry Root Beer, which is the only cherry root beer i have had. as i said i do quite enjoy black cherry soda, but this one kind of fails in both regards. if it was a good black cherry labelled as a root beer, i would be ok with that, sort of. but it is just an ok black cherry. it really has no other discernible flavor to me.
