honestly i have a hard time believing this is its own recipe as it is bottled by Private Label Specialties who do a ton of vanity labelling work, where they just put anyone’s custom labels on their bottles. but the Cappy’s people claim it is their unique brew and i am nothing if not a trusting fellow. particularly when it means i get to review a new soda.
it has actually been a while since i tried Private Label’s product so this might taste just like all of it for all i know. in any case… it is very sweet. in a good way, they go right to that point where it would be too much if they added more and stopped. so i approved there, especially being part hummingbird myself. =) it tastes like a very well done, standard root beer. the flavor profile you’d expect and not really anything more. pretty creamy, but not too well carbonated. I did try another bottle to be sure and had the same experience, not much carbonation here. maybe that works well with chowder for some reason? i have no idea, i’ve never had chowder let alone a root beer with chowder. so it’s good but not the best thing to happen to Maine.

I honestly never thought I would see the day you did a review on this. I say that because I lived in Maine for 17 years and lived and worked in Camden Maine for one year. Its right on the ocean, a beautiful small little tourist town. Been to Cappy’s many times. I was told by them years ago the one thing they would not do was mail order there root beer, So I see they must have changed there mail order policy. I was really excited to see this post. I like the root beer and give it 80
