Soda Folk Root Beer

I found out about this soda in glass probably from Rob’s Root Beer Reviews, although i believe i knew it was canned before that point. but i am getting old, my memory is failing, i may be making that up. i ordered a few bottles and traded one to the good doctor. he, being held to a higher standard put Percival McGuilicudy on the case and discovered this is made by Tommyknocker and was in fact one of their old recipes. as the nutritional info does not match any of the recipes i have reviewed, i think this is a unique, new soda for me so i continue with my review. yet it is amusing that this soda traveled from Colorado to London to Hampshire to New Jersey, all very safely mind you.
I like their label design and general feel. i should check their website to see just who the fellow is on there and what awesome thing he did to make him worthy of appearing on a root beer label in caricature form.
i shall try it now and see how it is! yup, this is similar to Tommyknocker for sure. but it lacks the rancid vanilla taste of the semi-old one and the herbal taste of the (as of right now) new recipe. plus the head is tremendously large which did not occur with the others. it is a complex, evolving taste though, starting off a little sharp but getting sweetness and creaminess creeping in and fading to a smooth taste with a maple taste. as i let it sit a little more, the carbonation decreases and the creaminess increases which i think is better in ways, but makes it less complex. it is pretty decent. i find i enjoy it more as i drink it more. i think the newest Tommyknocker is a bit better, but this is a good drink. it is not exactly a straight up root beer, so the United Kingdom is getting another skewed perspective on what root beer usually tastes like.

“‘Aged’ vanilla extract” is a new one on me, and I’m not what you’d call a rookie in the kitchen.

  2. The nutrition is slightly different than any Tommyknocker I’ve ever drank as well. Also, why is the picture sideways?

  3. the image shows up sideways in the facebook post only i think? i hope. i actually don’t know why. the plug in grabs the ‘featured image’ but for some resaon almost always makes it sideways despite my creation of it he correct way. one day I will figure it out.

  4. It’s sideways on your site. I’m viewing it right now in Google Chrome.
