I began my south eastern Pennsylvania root beer quest on this day with a visit to Yards. I was rather surprised to hear that they did not sell growlers of their root beer, so I sat at the bar to sample it. Which is fine in general, but I had places to go and I had already hit some traffic coming into Philadelphia so my schedule was tight. plus I had an empty cooler full of ice waiting for the day’s spoils to not spoil. Oh well.
I was first surprised by the fact that this soda was cold without ice. maybe I just haven’t drank many drinks on draught and they are usual cold right off, but I feel like often I have to specify no ice when I see them scooping it out into my glass.
the taste of this was initially quite bitter which was my second surprise. most often you get a very standard root beer flavor from beer breweries’ root beer offerings. but this one had one of the stronger licorice flavors i have ever had. I like licorice so it was a pleasant surprise, but a surprise nonetheless. the bitter edge subsided quickly after the initial hit to the tongue with each taste and settled into a sweeter licorice flavor. i enjoyed it quite thoroughly. although i was planning to drink 9 or so more root beers after this, i got a refill and headed out.

Your image is sideways again. Also way cool that you spelled it “draught”
