hhhmmm, the ingredients are the same as those of their soda of the same name that i reviewed 17 years ago. yet the nutritional info is different so it kind of has to be a different drink. i am thinking they re-formulated but liked the old stuff, just in different proportions. well, i think it is different, hence this new review. in any case, i have not had any of the old one since i initially reviewed it so i am coming at this pretty new anyhow.
huh, this actually isn’t terrible. for a natural root beer it is in fact rather tasty. for a soda in general it is even alright. huh indeed. the wintergreen is noticeable as are the birch and sassafras. the vanilla is in the back but you know it is there if you pay attention. the anise though i don’t really detect. there is a strong sharp ending / after taste which sort of morphs from a harsh carbonation issue to a lingering tongue tingle. i will admit i like that end result although the initial sharpness is not the best thing. so yeah, if you want a natural soda, this could be the one for you. i wish it did not have caramel color personally but can’t win em all i suppose.

I bought a pack of the ones in the glass bottles. You probably tried the one in the cans. I too have tried the one in the can, and let me tell you, the one in the glass bottle is better, because the carbonation is on point (if you know what I mean). For a somewhat mainstream-shelf root beer, it’s pretty good, and I can see myself buying a 4-pack of this every now and then when convenient. It has an all around good flavor, a little bit better than your typical root beer flavor. It has a bit of spiceness, not too much fruity flavor, no bitter flavor, and some minor vanilla-creamy flavor. All in all, pretty good for store market fodder. I gave it an approximate score ~84. This score is subject to change.
Wow, after looking online, I couldn’t even find any info or barely any photos of this Hansen’s soda in a normal glass bottle. Probably was expired when I drank it. Should of maybe saved it as a collector’s item. LOL.
