not available since 1974! until now that is! so the people at Brick Town Candy decided they had heard enough about this local beverage and they attempted to bring it back. as the original recipe was unavailable, they did the next best thing and found a relative of the former owners and some people who remembered what it tasted like then had a flavor house try to match those memories as closely as possible. as i was just born when it was last sold, i have no clue as to how close they got so i will trust their sources also. originally this company was formed by a few disgruntled Triple XXX employees, hence continuing the strange naming scheme of nine of a single letter. i guess “AAA AAA AAA” was too long of a name. i think the intention was ‘Triple A.’ but that is not what the name is of course. whatever. the logo is a red octagon, much like a stop sign with ‘Triple “AAA” Root Beer’ in it. looks good to me. the tagline now is ‘For a delicious nostalgic and refreshing drink.’ that also sounds good to me. i like delicious things, refreshing things as well. nostalgic? sure, why not, sound fine, but i can take it or leave it.
this is actually my second bottle of this, which is unusual for me. about 99% of the time, i taste a soda for the first time when i review it. but they sent me a 12 pack and it was too tempting in my fridge so i had to pop one open the other day to be refreshed. i think i had the same reaction both times. the first few swallows are not so great, there is a bitter side to it. but about halfway through, for some reason, perhaps i get used to it or the sweetness has settled, it tastes much better. it becomes sweeter and smoother and more enjoyable. on the whole though i am not too excited by it. it is a fine drink to have with pizza or whatever, as a drink, but on its own i don’t think it stands as strong. i did have high hopes for it. i like most things involving the letter ‘A’, being my first initial and all. i even had a time when i wore a hat of some sort with an ‘A’ on it constantly when i was awake. i really did want to like this more than i do. the first bottle i actually did like more than this second one. the flavor still has a harsh feel, more bitter than i like. not exactly herbal, it seems more similar to the kick of a black cherry soda to me. sweet but still sour and smacking your mouth also. it is better than many, mind you, just not up to the lofty heights i hoped it would reside in.

Y’know, I always wondered about the “Triple XXX” thing and of course, it was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this. Disgruntled employees, huh? I wonder what that was all about?
Despite your lukewarm-to-warm rating, this one sounds like one I might enjoy. Keep up the good work!
Weird, I had the opposite experience. The first few drinks were very good. Then as I got further into the bottle, it started having a medicinal taste. I wonder if some flavoring is moving around in the bottle. I store my bottles on their side.
I really enjoyed this one, it reminds me of some of the root beer from when I was a child growing up, Being 44 now, that was a long time ago. I gave this a 90
I bought a bottle of this at Pops and really enjoyed it. I am glad they rescued the recipe, I just wish someone would do the same for Coit’s.
I must say that this was a really good root beer. None of the flavors dominated one another. It is a smooth root beer that blends the spices perfectly. I easily give this one a 90. Your review states that this soda had a bitter flavor. I am a stickler when it comes to bitter flavored sodas; as I hate bitter root beers. As hard as I tried though, I could not taste any bitter flavor. Heck that’s one of the reasons u rate this soda highly. I suggest you try it one more time.
