i love so much that there are so many random breweries making root beers these days. look and ye shall find. although i look and don’t find much new these days near me. but luckily others look and trade with me or are super generous and kind when they find new things. in researching this company, it seems they make four sodas actually and a bunch of other “beers” which are incidental and uninteresting, let’s admit. as many breweries do, this one grew out of a guy who just really liked to brew beers and stuck with it until he got it down quite well. they don’t explain how the root beer came about really, but i assume they are saving the important stuff for a later entry in their history.
the packaging is fun and kind of beachy/tropical, at least to me. nothing too complex or crazy and it seems to use the Sponge Bob font so that is a wise move. they claim this brew is full bodied and truly original. well i will see if i concur.
ok, i concur. indeed, quite a full body here. it has a very complex, multi-layered flavor and is actually quite original. the biggest taste is the molasses, which is a great thing for me. but along with it comes the cinnamon, cloves and sarsaparilla tastes. i thought i would get more of a licorice flavor going on as it has star anise and licorice root but it is subtle and has to be focused on. eventually the wintergreen settles on your tongue as well and adds a nice end note. i like this. you have done well Riley, if that is your real name. excellent stuff. carry on and forget those other beers, make a birch beer and sarsaparilla please. or the only Spruce Beer in the western US? yes, thanks.
