well, I usually break up reviews of the same company with other reviews in between at least a bit, but I was in the mood for a white birch beer tonight so here we go with this one. frankly I am almost always in the mood for a white birch beer though so that is not too shocking. in reality I had started to review a root beer that I had traded for before I realized I had had it already about eight years ago. that sort of made me sad since I know it cost the other person a decent amount being a brewery soda and shipping soda as well is not cheap. but it is a lesson to me to be sure to check things better next time. so having drank a decent amount of that soda I was less in the mood for another root beer right away. thus birch beer it is!
I still really feel like this is made by another company but when I search my database for the ingredients I come up with no perfect matches. when I add in the nutritional information there really are no matches at all. but as that info is exactly the same as that of their sarsaparilla I reviewed last time, I am suspicious of it being correct. well, whatever, I will again go on the assumption that it is unique and not a vanity label. I really have no idea what Cape May has to do with birch beer. really I have never been to Cape May, but it being a very southern point in New Jersey, it is quite far from New England where many birch beers are found and not particularly close to Pennsylvania where the rest of them reside. I probably would have gone with Belmar Birch Beer or even Bradley Beach Birch Beer for the alliteration action and the somewhat more northern locale, but it is not my brand so I had no input.
this is pretty much what I look for in a clear birch beer. nice wintergreen flavor, crisp feel, not super sweet but sweet enough and just a general refreshing experience. it is funny because with a root beer I often want something more, something that sets it apart, unless it is just perfectly spot on. yet with white birch beers more of them are just spot on and I do not really want anything outside of that. this is just a really good soda which I would get all of the time if I could. I am sure wintergreen haters will dismiss it as tasting of toothpaste, but this is not for them. this is a good way to end the year.
