Forty Ninth State Brewing Frontier Root Beer

ok, so I must continue my Alaskan root beer reviews I suppose. I had planned to review a different soda today but it had caffeine and it is too late in the day for me to have such things. then I chose a different one but noticing this one next to it, I changed my mind and thought I may as well just keep the Alaska thing going longer. this one comes from the wise Vince who runs the Museum of Root Beer which I have yet to visit myself but which I of course must do one day.
from the story on their website, it seems this brewery was really a work of love and dedication. although, aren’t most microbreweries? haha! I also love that they have produced so many unique and interesting sodas, many seasonal and just plain fun. I am curious if the Spruce Tip one would fall under the root beer tent as I see it, but I suspect not, it sounds more like a fruity thing than a root based drink. oh well.
my first impression of this is that it is a complicated drink. it starts off too sharp for me, with almost a black cherry thing going on but that fades off slowly into a more rooty, sarsaparilla like taste. it is nice to try something different and my hats off to them for doing that, but I just don’t feel like it worked out that well. sure it is interesting and unique, but that does not always equate good unfortunately. I also cannot taste either the madagascar vanilla beans or the alaskan honey in this which is another shame as they both sound delightful.
