leave it to the esteemed Gourmet Doctor to realize they had changed their recipe and offer to send me a can along with a can of their spruce tip soda as well! actually the ingredients did not change except removing the caramel color since my first review but the nutrition info did so that must mean they did change the ratios of stuff. or else they lied at some point, either in the past or present. but I will go with the more hopeful and better (for me) option that this is in fact now a new root beer for me to sample!
I will look at the old review after I give my initial thoughts here. oh this is very honey tasting, nice work! it also has a fruity thing going on, cherry-ish I would say, but still recognizable as a root beer. ok so what did I say before, please hold… huh, yeah seems like the recipe did change as I feel like the honey is very upfront now and I did not before. the cherry flavor is still going on but more toned down I feel. of course it could just be a variation in batches yet this seems more a traditional root beer flavor than I feel the older one was. the carbonation is a little harsh for me, but not too bad. overall it is a good soda, not a great one, but it will fit the bill if you want something a little different while hanging in the cold white north.
