Ramblin Root Beer

when I was a wee lad, Ramblin Root Beer was something more. or at least they claimed to be. either way, they were one of the big root beer brands from when they were introduced around 1979. it was basically Ramblin, A&W or store brand. sometimes you could fine Dad’s. well, or local bottlers really, but I am talking about the big players. for whatever reason Coca Cola, who owned Ramblin and Dad’s too, gave up on the brand and decided Barqs was the way to go. I can’t see Coca Cola giving up on Coke or Sprite, but I don’t run a huge multinational corporation so what do I know about such things. anyway, that was around 1995, which is just before I started this site. I never did really review it but it was in my database for people to rate and all for a few years until the ratings page that had every root beer possible got to be too cumbersome. perhaps one day I shall bring something like it back. but I digress.
I have not had this drink in 25 years then apparently. I don’t know if I had it in exactly 1995, especially since they were primarily a fountain soda at that point, but I would think so as I was in college then and the store on campus had a lot of random Coke products for whatever reason. my friends and I were quite into root beer at the time as well. it is a traditional root beer. no frills except some extra sugar. so it is a sweet, generic-ish root beer. when 99.9% of the world thinks of root beer, I think it is a taste like this. I’m not sure what I hoped for, I mean from what I recall that was what it was and that was the market they were playing to when they were widely available. but since they are now a microbrew, this sort of fades into the back except for the name recognition. I would assume people would want the taste they remember and not something totally different, so this is the way to go. also adding the two other flavors was very smart, use the brand recognition but branch off and such.
