another english brew. and probably the first drink i have ever seen with both sugar and saccharin. the fact that it claims to be a “fruit flavour soft drink” makes me rather wary of it. yet it is not so bad. quite carbonated and it does have a bit of that icky sacchrin taste, but it is not overpowering as it is in most saccharin sweetened drinks. i don’t think the calorie count is all that much less than in a regular soda, but perhaps. it is hard to figure out with this nutty English nutrition information. so this does taste a little fruity, but not too much. it is ok, but not great. it is more that i expected it to be much worse that i am not saying awful things. well, there is nothing really awful to say about it. it is not stereotypical “root beer” but oh well, the Brits will survive i am sure.

This is an INSULT to Root Beer. It doesn’t Taste Like Root Beer. It tastes like Cough Medicine & makes me want to throw up! The Brits will Survive? Not on this one pal! I’d rather not drink Root Beer at all, if this is how it tastes. The silly thing is, that it says that it’s fruit Drink on the back too! This is an embarrisment to us Brits. It’s makes me feel ashamed of my Origins, & of my Smooth accent!
The Only people who drink this, are the people who haven’t Tried REAL Root Beer. Go to Waitros, & at least try their brand, from AUS. Bunderberg I think. At least that actually points in the direction of Root Beer!
But otherwise, get yourself on American Soda Webiste, Order a Crate of Each A&W, IBC, MUG’s & Barq’s if your into Caffine, & you will never look back.
On Behalf on England: “Please Accept my appologies for the production of this abomination”.
I’m British and I love Root Beer and my preferred is A&W which is hard to get hold of in Europe/UK. Carters is made in the UK and is not root beer. It tastes too much of licorice and is really not good. I am drinking a can as I type and I’m trying to think of it as something other than root beer so I can drink it.
Carters is not to bad! I LOVE mug and A&W but caters is still a nice drink. Its not really root beer but it is still nice to drink on a nice hot day. All we have to do is not compare it to the usa brands.
I think the best way to drink it is to let it go flat its loverlt like that!
I’m an American living in England, and I didn’t think this was bad! It’s no A&W, sure, but it makes a decent float. I’ll be going back for more!
I never heard of it since the day a customer asked if we sell Root Beer (I work at McDonald’s), then i got curious and bought me some cans at Asda, my husband that like to try new tastes had a go too. Oh my god it tastes like Vick Vaporub, that nasal thingy you use when u have a blocked nose. I Wont be buying anymore! And I’m not even curious to know the american one, if tastes something similar to this one…
McDonalds in the UK actually used to sell Root Beer in the 80’s/90’s, I used to get it all the time. They stopped stocking it about the time they started to stock Coca Cola rather than their own brand Cola. Well, at least in the franchises in and around Portsmouth.
I’ve tried all kinds of root beer and it’s really not as bad as some of you are making out and then you try and say A&W is great it’s ok but nowhere near dads root beer which is much the best I’ve tasted and whoever says it tastes like vaporub well no normal person would taste that and Carter’s certainly doesn’t taste of menthol I paid £20 for 24 dad’s root beer off amazon carters is £2 for 6 so what do you expect????
I drink this one as I cant have caffeine. Tell me if there is another non caffeine brand.
Very few root beers have caffeine, so in general you are safe. there is a list in my faqs
After searching for anywhere that even sold root beer this was a great find. Reminded me of the McDonald’s version that gave me taste for it back in the day and reasonably priced too. I can’t knock this.
