Wasatch Brigham’s Brew Root Beer

for some reason i always thought this one was a vanity labeling of another soda. i think my theory was Tommyknocker but i really have no reason why i thought that, looking back. anyway, Eric set me straight and we traded for a bottle of it.
coming into this i had a presumed belief that Mormons must know how to make great soda, not having to bother with the demon drink and its brewing as most other belief systems do. not to say that the brewers of this are Mormon, but if you name your soda after the main guy, there is a good shot of it. or a lot of Utah pride. the ingredient list makes me expect good things too, i love honey in my soda and three sweeteners in the first four ingredients sounds excellent to me as a lover of sweet stuff. it also has the most calories of any soda i have drank. i don’t count A&W Root Beer Float as a soda exactly, so don’t bring that one up please.
the label is ok, but the color choices are not the best. a darkish orange on a black background might be ok if it is a thick font, but it does not work with the thin font they chose to use that color for. otherwise i feel like it is a little confused. on the whole it is a pretty stately, serious label with a serious portrait of (i assume) Brigham Young, but the ‘Brigham’s Brew’ is in a wavy, wacky, silly font and almost every phrase on here is in a different font from each other. it lacks consistency to pull it all together.
the drink itself disappoints too. it is actually not too sweet. the honey is buried underneath everything else so i barely notice it. in fact if i was not told it had honey i don’t think i would realize it. the soda is a bit too sharp for my tastes. i don’t dislike it but i don’t love it and i had high hopes here. i don’t think it is a over carbonation issue either, that level is fine. the flavor itself is a bit off from goodness in my mouth.
