so those nutty Virgil’s people are at it again, changing up the recipe and the name even too! the seem to simplify it more each time. this time they changed up the label even more and it now depicts two children sitting on stumps with a keg of unknown type with an entirely too high tap between them while a bearded fellow places two gigantic foamy mugs of what is presumably root beer on the aforementioned keg. that is different at least. they no longer brag of their many many awards and distinctions so it is a whole new angle here
unfortunately this bottle is hardly carbonated so I will have to try another one soon. it is distinctly possible that I have more in my basement so that could happen quite soon. beyond that I feel like this has become less unusual with each iteration. the super old, original ones was rather gross and over done but the first tone down was pretty decent. this is not as spiced and crazy as even that version. that to me is a shame. I liked that they were different and stuck to their guns about it. but you know what, this is actually pretty good! I know, weird, that is not a sentiment I expected to say about Virgil’s frankly. there is still a good amount of licorice here with some nutmeg and cinnamon I believe. the sugar is fine, maybe a little over done, but it works. so yeah, I won’t have to avoid this anymore I guess. strange.

By itself I actually quite enjoy it but when compared to a better root beer, it isn’t that great.
