I have absolutely no idea when Cap’n Eli changed the recipe to this one. I just happened to be doing one of my occasional deep dives at a soda shop, checking the ingredients of pretty much every root beer they have to see if it matches what it was when I reviewed it. this one had changed a little in the ingredients and more so in the nutritional info, and that my friends, definitely means this is a new soda! woo hoo! it has honestly been well over twenty years since I have sampled the wares of the good Cap’n but I do believe I quite liked it, so hopefully this one is yummy as well.
oh yeah, that is very good. I think the cap was on a little too lose so it might be a but more carbonated and I will give it the benefit of the doubt there. it is very sweet but does not push the past the limit where it goes from tasty to sickly sweet. the root beer taste is pretty on point but not really super unique. I do taste a little maybe nutmeg to make it a little different, but it is not enough to truly set it apart. it is very smooth and just goes down well. it is a little watery so I would like the flavor amped up a little bit. on the whole it is a very good but not spectacular soda here. I would buy it again but not all the time and not really as an example of what greatness can be done with a root beer. i do want to drink it down and then grab at least another and do the same with that so I would not qualify this beverage as a real sipping soda.

I emailed them a few years back telling them that this was one of my favorite root beers but that the flavor tasted like it changed. They said that the flavor had not changed. Now, that was 9-10 years ago. Perhaps they really did change it this time. I remember this root beer not tasting as great as the first few times I tried it. Guess I’ll have to try again.
