i actually forgot/did not realize this was a store brand until well after i had finished drinking this soda and i was entering the data in my database with the ingredients and all. silly me. but i guess it made me give it more fair of a review. i also did not know that there are Save-A-Lot stores not all that far away from me so i could have just gone on a short root beer quest instead of having a very kind reader send me a can. oh well. that makes me wonder what else is out there, right under my nose, without me knowing about it! you sneaky sodas, come out!!
so for a store brand, they did an excellent job of graphic design. it is very circus-like to me. which is interesting and good. the silver and brown stripes and the carvinal-esque font combine with the pretty simple drawing of a root beer float to create that circus feel. why? i have no idea. maybe it is a subconscious thing, people like circuses in general, they buy overpriced food and pay too much to play games of chance where the prize is nearly worthless so maybe, just maybe those same people in general will have a similar feeling rise up in their guts and minds and spend the 30 cents or whatever it costs to buy this soda pop. i still have no idea, i just made that part up. you can make up your own theory. if you do, let me know about it.
before i realized this was a store brand i had this whole thing written in my head about how weird it is to make an independent soda and only sell it in cans. maybe not “weird” so much as “unusual.” you miss out on the “gourmet” root beer appeal. i also found it a little strange that it tasted so generic. but since it IS in fact a store brand, mass produced soda, i can disregard all of that, as can you. so yeah, it is ok. it tastes a lot like other store root beers, better than some, worse than others. it is a bit too syrupy for me although not overly sweet, just a sticky sweet that hits me wrong. the flavor besides is fine, nothing special or worthy of questing for. so they get a little boost for nice design work but it does not save them too much.
