this is an extract that had no directions for making soda out of it. I know that is probably not their intended use for this stuff, but I am all for subverting their system and doing it anyway. although I think they do have a recipe on their website that involves way too much result and ingredients. trying to scale down from five gallons to 16 oz is kind of a pain so I did the best I could. that ended up with a very weak root beer so I threw in some more. what I say is this is quite arbitrary as far as taste goes. I made it too sweet to start with as well so it had to be watered down.
so it tastes like root beer. that is really the goal of an extract, right? so success there. woo. but I think it is a bit too lacking in flavor so the taste is a bit bitter. there is a nice wintergreen and licorice taste here that does make it a little unique and different actually as I drink more of it. so that is good! and unexpected actually for an extract. if it were a real soda I don’t think I would really enjoy it a ton but as an extract it is not so bad really. it would be interesting in pancakes, I may try that tomorrow morning in fact. probably not, but maybe, one never knows.
