Slice Root Beer

as a kid of the 80s I quite fondly recall the Slice line of sodas. it began with a lemon lime competitor to 7-Up and Sprite, then there was a mandarian orange which was very yummy. after that I think they did an apple soda and a cherry cola, the latter of which I like a lot. their whole thing was it had 10% fruit juice I believe. it seemed to be pretty popular for a while but then Snapple came around which was more fruity while Slice lowered the juice content and cancelled flavors and then disappeared entirely. I believe Sierra Mist replaced the lemon lime slice? anyway, this is a long winded way of saying that I have no idea what relation, if any, this new line of Slice has to do with that one beyond the logo. it is not the same recipes in any way, it is not the same company, it is some of the same flavors though. I guess the old brand was sort of healthier than other sodas, or perceived that way at least, while they are going full tilt into the heathier soda market here. it is low sugar, with probiotics and prebiotics too, along with the tagline of ‘healthy soda.’

huh, that is more licorice heavy than I expected. it does taste like a root beer, more than I thought it would. not a good root beer, more a kind of bitter, harshly herbal licorice fueled root beer, but still I can taste the root in there. the combo of cane sugar and stevia is not awful but not wonderful, making that previously mentioned bitterness happen. I did not expect a lot from a healthy soda, but thought Slice might do it a bit better than this. oh well.
