I was not expecting to find this one when I did. mostly I just went to this store with my kids since they are somewhat obsessed with going to candy stores. but then again, what kid is not? really, what person is not and do we trust those people as far as we can throw em? well, really a soda shop I had not been to is the real reason and the candy store part for the kids makes it sound much less selfish.
they say this is all natural, but that the main component is root beer extract makes that a little suspicious. of course it could be an all natural extract and I suppose I have to take their word for it that it indeed is that. now, most all natural sodas are not so great, with a few exceptions of course. Boylan’s Natural was amazing but disappeared for whatever reason, for example. no others spring to mind immediately and I am too lazy to search my own site, but I will take my own word for the truth behind this. after reading about this company on their website, I have more faith in the natural-ness as it seems they make their own extracts and syrups. I also now really want to try their ginger beer as it sounds amazing. it is wacky to me that this company was around for almost 14 years before I even knew about it, just goes to show how many other brands there must be out there waiting to be found. it is not like Pittsburgh is around the corner from me, but it isn’t across the nation either. ok, so I just went to add this to my database and it was there already, so the real lesson here is that I am getting old and forgetful.
enough preamble, how is the soda? eh. it is just ok. for my tastes it is a bit bitter and sharp. it tastes natural in a good way, in an hearty herbal way. as I drink more I am enjoying it more for whatever reason, perhaps it settled a little since it was made. there are definite licorice, anise and a little ginger undertones going on that do not dominate and overpower the main sassafras, root taste. it still is not great but not really as mediocre as I first declared it. I’m not sure I’d get it too often again, but only 150 calories does not seem so bad for this.
